African double headed frame drum
African double headed frame drum

Huge drum, once bought in the secondhand circuit. Indications on where it originated from or when it was made, are thereby rather vague unfortunately. The previous seller only knew it was made somewhere in Africa, and it had been in his possession for more than 20 years already.
The last few years it has been with Chyltys Kam and has been used by her a few times in children's workshops. When the drum is free hanging horizontally in some sort of framework, you can easily let 4 or 5 toddlers sit around it and drum on it together. And be aware; its voice is really loud then!
This drum is a doubleheaded drum; it can be played on both sides. The hide appears to be cow skin and is stretched over a metal frame, which looks like it has maybe been sliced off some sort of large metal barrel. The hide is in 'rustique' condition; you can definitely see it has quite some years of age to it already. But it is still very well playable and its sound is like thunder; loud and heavy.
This drum is of course quite heavy to hold in one hand during long drumming sessions, but can for example also be played while sitting on a low chair and having it stand upright between your legs. Or make a special frame for it, in which it can hang horizontally to use it as a kind of 'motherdrum' during drumcircles.
Size; 60 centimeters diameter, 15 centimeters deep.
