Very beautiful vintage incense burner with a very detailed, high relief depiction of the Vedic sungod Surya, in the old Hindu writings also referred to as 'the jewel of the sky'.
Though nowadays the worship of Surya is not as highly ranked anymore, temples for him can still be found all through India, showing that Surya once was as important a deity as Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti. Surya is both this ancient God of the Sun as the Sun itself and can also be seen as a representation of the element Fire, specifically the heavenly equivalent of the earthly Fire element Agni.
Use incense burners such as this one by filling it with sand, rice or little stones before placing your incense sticks or cones in it.
Sizes: the outer diameter, measured including the handles, is approximately 10,5 centimeters. Diameter of the hole, measured at the top, is approximately 5 centimeters. Height is approximately 7,5 centimeters. Weight is 213 grams.
This incense burner is from vintage origin, but overall in very good condition. Only one available.
