This copper alloy figurine has been made somewhere in the 19th - early 20th century in the Jajarkot district in West Nepal. The style of the figurine, with somewhat elongated features, is made with the 'lost wax' metal casting method and is very typical for the semi-nomadic people living in this area.
In West Nepal, figurines such as these are usually made after the death of a person. They depict often soldiers, warriors, riders, shamans or village people. The figurines are made as part of the rituals and ceremonies following the death of a person and are used as votive offerings during the rites. After that, they are usually placed in shrines and temples, where they continue to receive offerings.
This figurine depicts either a soldier or warrior on horseback, as can be seen by the right hand resting on the sword and the military style of the hat.
It is a beautiful, unique piece of primitive, tribal art and will be a great addition to your altar. This figurine is not just a decorational, collection-worthy statue, but is an actual depiction of a deceased person and has a history of decades of being worshipped. It is very much alive and should be treated with the utmost respect and friendship.
Sizes; approximately 10 centimeters length, 14,5 centimeters high. It weighs 249 grams.
Unique piece, only one available.
