This copper alloy figurine has been made somewhere in the 19th - early 20th century in the Jajarkot district in West Nepal. The style of the figurine, with somewhat elongated features, made with the 'lost wax' metal casting method, is very typical for the semi-nomadic people living in this area.
This small figurine shows a person with hands folded in prayer and/or blessing position. Figurines such as these were placed in shrines and on altars in both temples and homes, where they were 'placeholders' or mediators between the human world and the world of the spirits and Gods. They were taken care of with regular offerings and attention and in return were 24/7 praying to the spirits for the wellbeing of the people.
This is a beautiful, unique piece of primitive, tribal art and will be a great addition to your altar. This figurine is not just a decorational, collection-worthy statue, but has a history of decades of being worshipped. It is very much alive and should be treated with the utmost respect and friendship.
Size; approximately 6,5 centimeters length. It weighs 30 grams.
Unique piece, only one available.
