Very old wooden phurba from Nepal. Artisan handcarved masterpiece in an authentic, rustique style and with some imperfections and damages due to its age and previous usage.
Design characteristics:
Pommel: a three-faced Vajrakilaya with three different facial expressions; joyful, wrathful and peaceful. On top of the three-headed deity also the figurine of a bird can be seen, most likely representing the Danphe (the local name for the Impeyan Monal, a type of very colorful pheasant native to the Himalayan mountain area's, one of Nepal's most famous national symbols.
Handle: shrivatsa (endless knot) symbolism.
Blade: the blade has been meticulously carved with a lot of different symbolism. Some symbols that can be seen are; an abstract representation of the mythical watermonster Makara, sun & moon symbols, naga's and a kalasha (ritual water vessel).
This phurba has a length of 30 centimeters and weighs 87 grams.
