Beeswax spell candles

The use of beeswax for all kinds of practical purposes can be traced back for thousands of years and all over the world, with the most ancient examples being found in Anatolia and Egypt. Early usages vary from making pottery waterproof, to use in fuels and cosmetics and even embalming the dead.

Also for as long as humans have been using beeswax, it has served many functions in religious, ceremonial and spiritual use. Overall it can be said that beeswax is considered a symbol of divine light and purity.

In Christianity for example, the purity of beeswax symbolizes the purity of the flesh of Christ and burning a beeswax candle is a small reminder of how he sacrificed his own body for the good of mankind. The candle is then seen as his body, the wick as his soul and the flame as his divinity.

Also in different Buddhist traditions, beeswax candles have been used for centuries; as an offering to the Buddha and to consecrate holy relics. Especially in Tibetan Buddhism, beeswax is a symbol of unity, purity, secular wealth (by not taking more than is necessary and feeling satisfied by that) and the Tibetan religious beliefs.

And, being such a soft substance that it can easily be modelled by warm human hands, beeswax has also found its way in the magical uses of many different spiritual traditions, being shaped in for example human or animals forms for specific spellwork.

Next to these spiritual considerations, there are also some practical benefits that make beeswax candles stand out above regular paraffin candles: their burning temperature is slightly higher than paraffin, which makes for a cleaner and more steady and smooth flame, with less soot and dripping. The color of the flame is a bit more white and bright and the natural smell is pleasant and somewhat sweet.

These beeswax candles are approximately 15 centimeters long and have a diameter of 5 millimeter. Each candle burns approximately 30 minutes; exactly a nice time-span for your daily ritual or spellwork. They can easily be modelled or twisted together for your personal magical purposes.
