Very nicely made bronze altar figurine depicting the Taoist deity Taishang Laojun, one of the so called 'Three Pure Ones', or 'Three Pure Ancestors'; the highest ranking deities in the Taoist teachings.
"Taishang Laojun" can be translated as "Supreme Elder Lord" or "Supreme Venerable Sovereign". He is seen as the ancestor of the primordial qi, divine formation and the foundation of heaven and earth. He is an incarnation of the Great Tao himself.
Laozi, writer of the classic 'Tao Te Ching', is often considered to be one of the 81 incarnations of Taishang Laojun
This figurine has been recently made, but treated with special techniques to acquire a beautiful 'antique-look'. It is very well made with intricate details.
