The use of high quality butter and ghee (as an even more outstanding derivative from butter) as an offering to the benevolent spirits is something that can be found in rituals all over the Eurasian continent. For many centuries in the past and up until this very day, it is for example used as a food-offering for spirit dolls and other eeren, and of course burned in oil-lamps on altars for all kinds of (daily) rituals.
Also in the tradition of Spirit of Wolf, the use of ghee as an offering is a very important one. It is for example the special offering to the Mother of Fire. When we hold rituals, or work with clients, there's always a little ghee lamp burning on the altar or table to honor her and other spirits.
Here at SeaWolf Shop we offer you ghee lamps in differents styles and sizes. This one is a 'diya' style ghee lamp. This simple style of clay lamps is probably the most ancient style of butter-/oil lamps; they have been used since prehistoric times, with all kinds of different fuels and wicks, varying from region to region and century to century.
These ghee lamps are made from airdrying clay. They are used by putting a simple cotton wick inside, with the burning-end laying on the 'spout' and filling them with your preferred fuel (at Spirit of Wolf we would of course use good quality ghee for this).
Please note that these little clay lamps will get very hot when in use, so always make sure to place them on some kind of heat-resistent coaster before lighting them. And of course make sure to refill timely, so they don't burn dry (which might cause them to crack). During usage the clay of these lamps will turn darker, this is a natural process and will only increase their solidity.
These little clay lamps are handmade in India. Some of them have been used before, as can be seen on the dark patina. All lamps have been thoroughly soaked in warm ghee already by our hands, to infuse the clay throughout and make them thus less brittle for their first usage. When they are regularly used, they will of course stay infused with the ghee (or other oil or butter).
These diya lamps are sold per piece. Due to their handmade origin, of course they are all a little bit different (and some are a bit darker already, due to their previous usage). We will handpick one at random for you.
