Brass pendants with the depiction of Genghis Khan, the mighty Mongol emperor and conqueror.
Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes and laid the foundation for the Great Mongol Empire. Under his reign, the Mongol territory would become the largest empire in world history, stretching over a total of approximately 15 million square miles, including the (modern) regions of Mongolia, Central Asia, India, Pakistan and Russia.
Though he was known for introducing a very strict hieararchy and discipline in his troops and massive massacres among the conquered tribes have been done in his name, he was also highly revered. A veneration which grew into a cult in the 13th century, when, instead of traditional ongons, sacred yurts and statues of Genghis Khan were erected to whom sacrificial rituals were dedicated.
Until this day, he is still seen and honored as a sacred ancestor and his depiction can be found on many items and places, varying from airports to paper money to personal jewelry and amulets. It is believed that the symbol of his face or name will bring protection and good luck and teach about noble qualities.
These pendants come to us via our friends at Shaman Bazar. Size is approximately 4,5 centimeters high (measured without eyelet) and 3,9 centimeters wide. Weight is approximately 25 grams.
