Vintage Indian pendant with the depiction of Hanuman, the well-known and very popular half human - half monkey shaped deity of the Hindu pantheon. He is especially revered in the northern part of India and is a central figure in the cosmology of many of the Nepalese animistic tribes and as such worked with by their traditional shamans.

Hanuman is one of the most central figures in the famous Indian heroic epos Ramayana, where he is a loyal companion and devotee to Lord Rama and helps him to recover his wife Sita from the demonic king Ravana. Because of his profound loyalty to Rama, Hanuman is nowadays seen as the ultimate personification of bhakti (devotion). Other characteristics that he symbolizes are for example; strength, self-discipline, courage and unwavering dedication.

This pendant has a zinc-alloy base, which has been oxidated into a red-gold color. This pendant has been made in the Indian province of Rajasthan, a region well-known for its high quality jewelry makers.
