Horse hide, badger paw and pine wood rattle
Horse hide, badger paw and pine wood rattle
Share
Rattle made with white-beige haired hide from a horse. This hide is acquired as scrap material from an artisan drum maker.
The rattle is filled with organic buckwheat, giving it a nice heavy feel and sound.
The wood used for the handle of this rattle comes from a pine tree growing on the sandy heath lands of the Veluwe, in the east of the Netherlands. This piece of wood has a beautiful natural 'decoration' made by a typesetter beetle.
On this handle the prepared back paw of a dutch badger had been attached. This badger was found as a roadkill victim in the same area as where the pine tree wood comes from. The combination of this badger and this wood connects this rattle deeply with the nature, energies and local spirits in the east of the Netherlands.
The rattle is decorated with a colorful braid, made from 9 strands of cotton in green and white colors. During the braiding, only the best of intentions and blessings were put in.
Total length of this rattle is 32 centimeters. It weighs 82 grams.
Handmade by Chyltys Kam. Every rattle is a unique item.
