Rattle made with rawhide from a horse, acquired as scrap material from an artisan drum maker. The hide used for this rattle has a beautiful warm, copper-brown color. The rattle is constructed with a piece of elder wood as handle and filled with organic lentils.
All rattles already start telling bits and pieces of their story during the construction process. Usually we don't share that much about it. The rattles have proven time and time again to be perfectly able to attract exactly the right person to them, without us disclosing all their secrets already. For this one however, we give a sneak peek of its dynamics.
This rattle is all about transformation. The elder wood, used for its handle, is perhaps one of the most magical kinds of wood according to our European folk traditions. Its symbolism is very deep and very layered. One of its associations is that with the circle of life, death and rebirth. It symbolizes the natural cycles of transformation.
In this rattle, the elder wood is matched with the spirit of the Horse. The Horse can be a strong companion in the transformation process; it has the ability to guide you through all layers and worlds, meanwhile protecting against malignant forces (evil spirits are said to dislike, and even be scared away by the smell of the (physical) horse's skin, hair and sweat).
While weaving the decorative braid, these dynamics have been consolidated. The colors used in the braid have been chosen to symbolize its topic of transformation; the violet color of transformation has been combined with blue to symbolize a healthy flow in the process; of not getting stuck in intense emotions or behind inner or outer blockages.
Total length of this rattle is 35 centimeters. It weighs 94 grams.
