Very nice, recently made pendant with the depiction of a dragon and phoenix, meticulously carved in a piece of very dark green jade. The green color is so dark it almost looks like a not-transparant black, only when held up to the light it shows its beautiful semi-transparent character with some bottle-green spots.
The dragon & phoenix motive became very popular during the Chinese Liao Dynasty (907-1125). The combination symbolizes the perfect balance of opposite yet complementing forces; the masculine and feminine, yin and yang, water and fire, power and grace. Together they symbolize duality, balance and harmony. The motive is especially used to bring balance and protection to the family, familyhome and marriage.
Size of this pendant is approximately 49 millimeters in diameter and 4 millimeters thick. It weighs 22 grams. Recently made and in great condition.
