Vintage brass pendants with the depiction of a lotus flower, an important symbol in the iconography of Buddhism (and one of the famous Tibetan Buddhist group of prosperity symbols known as The Eight Auspicious Symbols).
Among many other symbolic explanations, the lotus flower is associated with the (human) heart; the ancient (5th century) Tibetan mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum", which invokes the boddhisattva Avalokiteshvara, calls upon the Jewel ('Mani') in the Lotus Flower ("Padme'); the Buddha nature that is the true core essence of all people, but is often hidden deep in our heart beneath many layers. These layers are symbolised by the petals of the lotus flower (which represents the human heart), which need to be opened to be able to live fully from a heart of compassion; this is what is symbolised by the Buddha (the one who has accomplished just that) sitting on the opened lotus flower (the heart completely filled with compassion).
The lotus flower is a symbol of purity. It grows in muddy water yet remains clean and untainted, representing the inherent purity of all beings.
And just like the lotus flower grows from the darkest, muddiest depths, following the light up to the surface, where it becomes the most beautiful flower, it symbolizes the journey of one's soul on the path towards enlightenment.
Being handmade items, the pendants vary a little bit in size and shape. They vary between 22 - 25 millimeters long (without the eyelet), 20 - 23 millimeters wide and a weight between 6 - 8 grams.
You can choose your favorite one via the selection-menu (while still available of course).
