Old shamanic rudraksha necklace. This necklace comes from Nepal and has been worn by a village shaman during many rituals and ceremonies. It is therefore a very much alive piece already and should be welcomed and used by its next owner with the utmost care and respect. This item is surely not meant to be a mere decorational piece.
This necklace is a so called "kantha mala"; a rudraksha mala strung together in a very traditional way with wool and (red) woolen spacers in between the beads. The beads are all strung facing the same position, giving the divine energy the possibility to circulate through each bead, multiplying and increasing by each spiraling movement, and finally coming together as a strong force in the central, 'guru' bead of the necklace from where it enters the body of the one wearing it.
Rudraksha beads are categorized by the number of faces/facets that can be distinguished on the surface. These are called 'mukhi'. In this mala, 5 mukhi beads have been used. The 5 faced rudraksha bead is the most commonly used type, it represents the five forms of Lord Shiva himself. The 5 mukhi rudraksha helps in awakening one's higher self and from there the personal connection to the divine. Also, 5 mukhi rudraksha beads have a special affinity for the 5th chakra, the Visshudha or throat chakra.
In total 57 beads are used. These beads have become very dark over time, almost black, which is also said to have increased their power; most rudraksha beads turn naturally darker over time, so the longer they have ripened the darker they have become. And in this ripening process, over time they have gained a lot of natural energy.
On this mala two items have been attached. There's a brass/bronze bell, which high vibrational sounds helps to purify the energy during the ritual by driving away the evil spirits and calling in the helpful ones. And there's a small wooden mask, which has been attached to the central, 'guru' bead of the necklace with some sort of clay and a decorated glass bead as stopper. This mask will have served as a spirit house for one of the spirit helpers from the previous owner of this necklace; maybe representing one of his ancestors, or the spirit of the necklace itself. The exact original purpose of this mask is of course only known by the previous owner. For the next owner of this necklace this means that some residue of the energy of this spirit might still be felt in here, and it is of the utmost importancy to consult with this spirit first in a very respectful way before making plans to 'reset' this spirit house for your own purposes. If you feel in need of any advice or tips on how to handle here, of course feel free to contact us.
Total length of this necklace is approximately 90 centimeters (measured only the 'circle' made by the beads, not measured including the pendants).
The bell has a length of approximately 5 centimeters (measured with the eyelet, but without the tongue). The mask has a size of approximately 9 centimeters length and 6 centimeters width.
Unique item, only one available.
