Old necklace from Nepal, which has lived a long life already before it came to us. This necklaces combines rita and rudraksha beads.
The black beads in this necklace are from seeds known in Nepal as 'rita' and in India as 'chirmi' or 'ratti'. They are found in the forests of the Indian Aravali mountains. They are associated with the goddess Kali and worn for protection against bad luck, negative influences, malignant forces and black magic. Also they are associated with Maha Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. It is said she likes to stay near to these beads and therefore rita beads are kept in wallets, lockers, cash boxes and hand bags to attract financial prosperity.
Rudraksha beads are categorized by the number of faces/facets that can be distinguished on the surface. These are called 'mukhi'. Each type is associated with a number of different dynamics. In this necklace, different kinds of rudraksha beads have been used; there are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 mukhi rudraksha beads in this piece, combining their various qualities. Next to the natural, rough rudraksha beads also a few smaller polished ones have been added.
As a centerpiece for this necklace a diamond-shaped bead made of frosted, semi-transparent glass has been used. This bead has a diameter of approximately 2,5 centimeters. Please note; on this bead some small damages can be seen due to the age and previous usage of this item.
Total length of this necklace is approximately 104 centimeters.
