Old mala necklaces from Nepal, made with a specific kind of black seed-beads, known in Nepal as 'rita' and in India as 'chirmi' or 'ratti'. These seeds are found in the forests of the Indian Aravali mountains. They are associated with the goddess Kali and worn for protection against bad luck, negative influences, malignant forces and black magic. Also they are associated with Maha Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. It is said she likes to stay near to these beads and therefore rita beads are kept in wallets, lockers, cash boxes and hand bags to attract financial prosperity.
The rita beads used in these mala's are between 10-15 millimeters diameter. Total length of the necklaces is between 130-136 centimeters.
Multiple ones available, with the beads strung on red or white cotton cord. You can choose your favorite cord-color via the selection-menu, from there we will handpick the exact one for you at random. Please note: These mala's are from vintage origin; they show signs of their age and previous usage.
