Beautiful old Nepalese necklace made with bone beads.
The beads have been made from bones that have a natural hollow inside after cleaning out the marrow (such as the leg bones from smaller mammals). After cleaning and polishing the pieces of bone, the hollow has been filled again with a clay-like substance, which has been pierced with an approximately 1-3 millimeters wide hole for threading.
Being all handmade, and of course from all natural material, they all look slightly different, with sizes varying between 15-17 millimeters high and 15-17 millimeters diameter. These beads have quite some years of age to them already and have gained a nice rustique look and smooth feel over time.
As a centerpiece, a handmade tubular shaped iron bead has been used. This bead is approximately 28 millimeters long and 13 millimeters in diameter.
Total length of this necklace is approximately 86 centimeters. Total weight is 293 grams. The beads are strung on beige cotton cord, which closes with a toggle button.
