Brass phurba from Nepal with nicely detailed depictions. The blade has been oxidized to a red copper color. This phurba comes with its own triangular, red copper stand. Recently made.
Design characteristics:
Pommel: a three-faced Hayagriva, with three different facial expressions; joyful, wrathful and peaceful. The horse-headed deity Hayagriva can be seen as a wrathful manifestation of Avalokiteshvara or Amitabha. It is said that his scream is so loud and piercing that is shatters all ignorance and foolishness.
Handle: a combination of the symbol of a vajra (dorje) and the shrivatsa (endless knot) symbol.
Blade: intertwined naga's facing upwards. The blade is held by an abstract representation of the mythical watermonster Makara
This phurba has a length of 21 centimeters and weighs 394 grams.
