Frame drum manufactured by Remo. This drum is made with the patented Remo fiberskyn; a synthetic (and completely vegan) skin. The skin is pre-tuned with a low-pitched, warm sound, which is not subject to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Drums made with this skin can even be played outside in the rain!
Please note; this is not a traditional shamanic drum. Framedrums such as these are nowadays made mostly for musical purposes. That being said, the style of this drum (handheld and played with the fingers instead of a stick) has a very old history. It is the predecessor of all modern drums and can nowadays still be found all over the world. And of course, being such a popular instrument in many different cultures and traditions, it has also been used in many different ritual and ceremonial settings. It was for example the most well-known ritual instrument used in the goddess-based cultures in the ancient Mediterrenean world.
Drums like this are usually held at (the cut-out in) the frame with one hand, while being played with the fingers from the other hand. Different tapping- and stroking techniques are used to create a wide range of sounds and effects. Sometimes a simple wooden beater (similar to the 'tipper' used for the traditional Celtic 'bodhran' drum) is used.
This drum has quite a small diameter; 30,5 centimeters / 12 inch, which makes it easy to take with you while travelling. And lightweight to hold during long drumming sessions.
The 6,5 centimeter deep frame is made with Remo's special 'acousticon kettle' technique to optimize the sound and has been finished in walnut-wood color.
This drum has once been bought by Chyltys Kam and has been used for a few moments, but is still in as good as new condition.
Only one available.
