Bells are used for spiritual and ritual purposes all over the world, especially on the Eurasian continent. Also when visiting a traditional shaman, they are not to be missed. They are everywhere. On the costume, on the drum, on the altar, on attributes and spirit dolls.
Hand-held bells such as this one can be used during rituals, ceremonies and healing sessions, especially at the beginning and/or end of the session. They are used for multiple reasons. For example; they clearly mark the beginning and end of the session, making it a period set apart from the rest of the day, their sounds and vibrations cleanse space and energyfields and they call in the helpfull spirits and drive out the heavy ones.
This bell is of Dutch manufacture and is originally a table bell; a bell used to let the servants know their assistance was needed at the dinner table.
This bell seems to be made from two slightly different kinds of metal; the bell is made from a light, almost silvery colored bronze and the handle from a more yellow/gold-ish brass. It has a beautiful clear and vibrant sound. Being a vintage item, there might of course be some minor damages and imperfections that come with age and previous usage, but overall it is in very good condition.
Approximately 15 centimeters high and 322 grams.
Only one available.
