Very nice Tibetan silver pendant with (faux) gemstones, made in a typical, traditional Tibetan style.

When looking at Tibetan jewelry (or the adornments on other richly decorated objects such as sacred statues and ritual attributes), you will find that some type of (gem)stone are used especially often. On one hand, this of course has to do with the simple fact of availability in the regions where those items have been made, but on the other hand also the symbolic meanings of these particular (gem)stones plays a big role.

Some of the stones used most often in Tibetan jewelry can also be seen in this pendant:

* The red 'stones' are a (more environment-friendly and less expensive) glass alternative for coral; the so called 'sherpa coral' which can be found in a lot of Himalayan jewelry.
Coral represents life force, energy, vitality and strength. Also it symbolizes the blood of the Buddha.
* Amber (in this case a resin-variant) is often associated with the Fire element and especially in Fire's aspect of bringing clarity and calmness to the mind, dispelling negativity and balancing energies. Thus making a deeper state of introspection possible.

This good heavy quality pendant has been recently made in Nepal. It is approximately 38 millimeters in diameter (measured without the eyelet) and 10 millimeters thick and weighs 37 grams.
