Eyecatching large ring, made with Tibetan silver and (faux) gemstone inlay. Good quality, very nicely made.
The upper part shows a motive of (faux) gemstone inlay (turquoise colored howlite, glass coral and synthetic amber) in between Tibetan silver filigree work. Also the outside of the ring itself has been completely covered with a paste of finely ground turqoise colored stone paste.
When looking at Tibetan jewelry (or the adornments on other richly decorated objects such as sacred statues and ritual attributes), you will find that some type of (gem)stone are used especially often. On one hand, this of course has to do with the simple fact of availability in the regions where those items have been made, but on the other hand also the symbolic meanings of these particular (gem)stones plays a big role.
Some of the stones used most often in Tibetan jewelry can also be seen in this ring:
Turquoise (in this case a colored howlite); probably the most revered gemstone of all. The sky-blue color symbolizes a connection to the Infinite Blue Sky, Great Spirit and our human souls as a part of that. It symbolizes life itself, heals our spirit and offers protection from the ancestors.
Coral (in this case a more environment-friendly and less expensive glass alternative known as 'sherpa coral'); represents life force, energy, vitality and strength. Also it symbolizes the blood of the Buddha.
Amber (in this case a resin-variant); often associated with the Fire element and especially in Fire's aspect of bringing clarity and calmness to the mind, dispelling negativity and balancing energies. Thus making a deeper state of introspection possible.
This ring has been recently made in Nepal, resembling a traditional Tibetan style. It is very well made and in good condition.
Sizes; (wearable) ring size is 20 millimeters diameter. The circular part measures 40 millimeters diameter. Weight is 31 grams. Only one available.
