Vintage brass melong Three Bodhisattva and Dzogchen 41 millimeters

Vintage brass melong from Nepal with Buddhist symbolism on both sides.

One side shows the mantra's for the three 'Great Bodhisattva's'; the three bodhisattva's that are the nearest companions of Gautama Buddha and embody the three main focuses of the Buddhist practice; principles and qualities that we need to activate and cultivate in our life when walking the path to enlightenment. In this trinity, Vajrapani respresents the Power of Buddha, Avalokiteshvara the Compassion and Manjushri the Wisdom.

This melong shows the main mantra's associated with them:
"Om Mani Padme Hum" for Avalokiteshvara
"Om Vajrapani Hum" for Vajrapani
"Om Ah Ra Pa Cha Na Dhi" for Manjushri

The other side of the melong shows the basic Dzogchen symbolism; the group of three dots in all four (cardinal) directions. A subtle representation of multiple trinities that are recognized in the Dzogchen tradition, such as the trinity Body, Speech and Mind (the three concepts in which a human would divide himself and which all need to be transformed to reach the goal of the Rainbow Body). Or the three Buddhist Jewels; Buddha, Dharma and Sangha or the trinity of Base (essence), Nature and Energy.

This melong has quite some years of age to it already and shows some signs of its age and previous usage. Since it has been handmade, it is not perfectly symmetrical, which only adds to its rustique charm.
