Beautiful vintage brass figurine of Shakyamuni Buddha, often called the 'original' Buddha; a very important and highly revered spiritual leader in 5ht and 4th century BCE in Nepal and India (known by life as prince Siddharta Gautama), whose teachings would become the foundation of Buddhism.
Buddha sits with his legs crossed in vajra position (lotus position), protected by the seven-headed Naga king Mucalinda. In the Mucalinda Sutta it is told that when Buddha had been sitting in meditation under the bodhi tree for some weeks, the heavens turned dark and it rained for 7 days. Mucalinda came from his realm beneath the earth, coiled himself into a throne for the Buddha to sit on and shielded him from the rain with his multiple cobra hoods.
This very nicely made figurine is 12 centimeters high and has a diameter (measured at the bottom) of 7,5 x 4,5 centimeters. It is quite a heavy one for its size; 539 grams. The residue of red vermillion powder on this figurine clearly clearly shows the signs of its previous worship.
Unique piece, only one available.
