The half human - half monkey shaped figure of Hanuman, is perhaps one of the most well-known and popular deities in the Hindu pantheon. He is especially revered in the northern part of India and is a central figure in the cosmology of many of the Nepalese animistic tribes and as such worked with by their traditional shamans.
Hanuman is one of the most central figures in the famous Indian heroic epos Ramayana, where he is a loyal companion and devotee to Lord Rama and helps him to recover his wife Sita from the demonic king Ravana. Because of his profound loyalty to Rama, Hanuman is nowadays seen as the ultimate personification of bhakti (devotion). Other characteristics that he symbolizes are for example; strength, self-discipline, courage and unwavering dedication.
This Hanuman statue is made of brass, which has been treated to attain a nice, brown-bronze color. It is from vintage origin and might therefore show some minor damages and imperfections, but overall it is in good condition.
