Very nice bronze statue depicting the Chinese Money Frog, a well-known emblem from Feng Shui iconography also known as Chan Chu or Jin Chan.

Jin Chan is a creature of mythical origin, said to appear during full moon nights near houses or businesses where soon a good flow of wealth will start. He is believed to attract and protect this wealth and guard against bad luck.

Typically Jin Chan is depicted as a bullfrog with three legs (hence yet another one of his names; 'Three-Legged Toad'). The three legs symbolize the idea that wealth should be flowing; money should circulate, not being excessively hoarded. The frog often sits on a pile of money and holds a coin in its mouth. This coin is said to call out to other coins, thus invoking in extra money.

There are many different beliefs as to where and how to place such a statue. There is for example the idea to place one near the main entrance of the house or business and to carefully change its direction twice a day; in the mornings he should be placed facing outwards, so he can go into the world in search of new wealth, and in the evenings he should be turned facing inwards, meanwhile visualizing him returning home again with a lot of money. Other instructions simply say to always have him face inwards from the main entrance. Other good ideas to place a Money Frog statue include for example; near the cash register in a store, on the desk near the laptop where the business is run from, near important personal (financial) documents such as investment, stock or pension papers or even on top of lottery tickets.

As is often done with such statues, after it has been made some special ingredients have been added to the inside of the statue, after which it has been closed with a seal with characters of good fortune (this can be seen on the belly of the frog). When you shake the statue carefully, you hear a slight rattling sound inside. Such ingredients are often a mix of chippings of precious stones and metals, herbs and grains and sometimes pieces of fabric or paper with symbols or mantra's on it. These fillings are an offering to the spirit of the statue and adding them enlivens and blesses it for its purpose.

This statue has been made in a very nice 'antique-look'; the bronze has been treated to attain a green-grey antique color. The statue is from vintage origin and in good condition. This statue is approximately 15 centimeters long, 9,5 centimeters wide and 5,5 centimeters high. It weighs 559 grams.
