Vintage buddhist amulet necklace with Shakyamuni Buddha as central figure.
Shakyamuni Buddha is often referred to as the 'historical' Buddha or 'original' Buddha; a very important and highly revered spiritual leader in 5ht and 4th century BCE in Nepal and India (known by life as prince Siddharta Gautama), whose teachings would become the foundation of Buddhism.
Necklaces in this traditional style are most commonly handmade by buddhist monks in temples, to be sold as amulets for pilgrims and tourists. They commonly consist of brass depictions of a Buddha, set in a leather cover, hung on a yak leather cord. Sometimes the central depiction is combined with more amulets on the same cord.
This amulet necklace is approximately 57 centimeters long (measured without the pendant) and weighs 24 grams.
The necklace is from vintage origin and shows some signs of its age and previous usage. Only one available.
