Statues such as this one are well-known in the ancient Chinese practice of Feng Shui (the art of harmonizing the energy flows between individuals and their surrounding environment).
These statues are used to attract a good flow of (financial) wealth and prosperity into the home. This purpose can very well be seen in the appearance of these money attracting figurines; they often represent an animal sitting on a large pile of coins, and they are often completely covered in a layer of shiny gold paint.
There are slightly different points of view on how and where the figurine should be placed in the house; some say it should face to the outside, so it can spot the money flow and beckon it in. Some say that it should face to the inside, so that it gives the proper direction to the money flow going into the house. But despite this exact positioning, most agree that it should be placed near the front window or front door, because that's where it can be a channel to attract and guide the flows of wealth and prosperity from out in the universe into the home.
From a shamanic point of view, these figurines could be considered spirit houses for the Money Spirit and could as such be placed on (a separate part of the) altar. To please the Money Spirit, this place on the altar should be elaborately decorated with beautiful and valuable items that represent (financial) wealth; paper money, coins, gold and silver jewelry, expensive gemstones etc. And of course the spirit house should be fed often with offerings of good quality incense and wodka.
