Vintage mala necklaces from Nepal, made with a specific kind of black seed-beads, known in Nepal as 'rita' and in India as 'chirmi' or 'ratti'. These seeds are found in the forests of the Indian Aravali mountains. They are associated with the goddess Kali and worn for protection against bad luck, negative influences, malignant forces and black magic. Also they are associated with Maha Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. It is said she likes to stay near to these beads and therefore rita beads are kept in wallets, lockers, cash boxes and hand bags to attract financial prosperity.
The rita beads used in these mala's are between 10-15 millimeters diameter. The beads are strung on black cotton cord. These mala's are quite long; their length varies between 172-174 centimeters.
Multiple ones available, sold per piece. We will handpick one at random for you. These mala's are from vintage origin; they might show some signs of their age and previous usage.
