Very nice old yak butter jar from Nepal.
In the Himalayan herding communities, yak butter is one of the main staple foods and an important trading item. Handmade wooden jars like this can be found in every household. They are often of very simple, purely practical design, sometimes decorated with a few accenting lines, such as also the case with this beautiful example.
Due to its age and usage, of course this jar has some damages and imperfections, but isn't that exactly what makes it more beautiful?
This jar makes for a wonderful addition to your altar space or living room, and is of course great to store your own homemade ghee in.
The exact age is hard to determine, but it can roughly be estimated somewhere around the mid 20th century.
