Very nice vintage Himalayan statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, often called the 'original' Buddha; a very important and highly revered spiritual leader in 5ht and 4th century BCE in Nepal and India (known by life as prince Siddharta Gautama), whose teachings would become the foundation of Buddhism.

Buddha sits with his legs crossed in vajra position (lotus position), holding a begging-bowl, which symbolizes his teachings on humility and non-attachment on the one hand and, a necessary assumption with that, the reliance on the goodwill and generosity of others on the other hand.

The dot on his forehead is known as 'urna'; it is said that from this spot a brilliant white light radiated, illuminating the whole universe. His elongated earlobes point to his former royal status (the earlobes stretched by wearing heavy jewelry) and the robe worn over his left shoulder would have been in the traditional monk's saffron-yellow color.

This beautiful statue is made from a good quality 'white metal'- alloy and is quite heavy; 889 grams. It is 13 centimeters high, 11 centimeters wide and 6 centimeters deep. It has been made in Himalayan regions (most likely Nepal or India) and is from vintage origin, but overall in good condition. It will be a great focuspoint on your (buddhist) altar.

Unique item.
