Beautiful silver bronze pendant, engraved with the ancient Sri Yantra diagram.
Yantra's are geometrical diagrams that are mostly found in Tantric traditions and Indian religions such as Hinduism. In India, their usage can be dated back to 11.000-10.000 BCE. They are comprised of geometrical shapes, sometimes combined with images or written mantra's. A yantra is usually associated with a particular deity, it can be seen as a visual representation of that deity and serves a 'portal' function for establishing a connection with the divine.
Yantra's are often used as visual aids in meditative practices, but can also be found on personal amulets or decorative objects to attract a certain flow of wealth, good luck or prosperity into one's life, or to ward off misfortune or evil. Due to their aesthetic qualities, they can also be found on larger surfaces, such as temple floors or walls.
This pendant shows an image of the Sri Yantra, one of the most famous and ancient diagrams. The Sri Yantra is comprised of 9 triangles, that interlock and overlap each other to create a total of 43 smaller triangles. The Sri Yantra represents the union between the divine masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti). It thus symbolizes the totality of the cosmos and the principle of Advaita (non-duality). The diagram represents how the whole of the cosmic, divine and human realms emanates from a singular central point; the point known as 'bindu', the invisible, elusive center from which creation begins. This point can be seen in the center of the diagram and forms the focal point in meditative practices.
This pendant has a diameter of 33 millimeters (measured without the eyelet) en weighs 15 grams. It comes from Nepal, is from vintage origin and has a nice patina due to its age and previous usage.
