Vintage Nepalese pendant, handcarved from yak bone with the depiction of a horse
In many traditions, the spirit of the Horse is considered a very important and powerful one. Its symbolism and spiritual-energetic dynamics vary from tradition to tradition and from practitioner to practitioner, but some can be found all over the globe. For example, think about the Horse's ability as a guide; just like we can travel on the back of a horse in the physical world, exactly like this we can also travel with the Horse spirit in the non-physical realms. It has the power and ability to guide us through all worlds there. In traditional shamanism the shaman's drum is often called his 'horse'; he rides his drum like a horse into the other worlds.
In traditional shamanism the Horse is also considered to be a very strong protector against malignant forces. The evil spirits are said to dislike, and even be scared away by the smell of the (physical) horse's skin, hair and sweat. For this reason, material associated with the horse, such as its hair and even parts of its equipment (like rings from its saddlery) are used in many ritual attributes, tools and amulets.
This pendant has a Buddhist origin. In (Tibetan) Buddhism, the horse's speed, vitality and ability to adapt quickly to different situations is associated with a certain clarity and decisiveness of mind and swiftness of consciousness.
The carved yak bone piece has been set into a Tibetan silver setting, which is engraved on the backside with another important symbol from the Tibetan Buddhist iconography; the Vase of Great Treasures. The Vase is one of the well-known group of buddhist symbols known as the Eight Auspicious Symbols. The Vase pours forth an inexhaustible flow of treasures, for those who follow the dharma path; such as health, longevity, wealth and wisdom.
This pendant has a diameter of approximately 39 centimeters (measured at the backside and measured without the eyelet). It is from vintage origin and shows some minor signs of its age and previous usage, but overall it is still in very good condition.
Only one available.
