Vintage Nepalese pendants, handcarved from yak bone. With a depiction of two important buddhist' symbols; the dorje and the eyes of Buddha.
The word 'dorje' (or in Sanskrit 'vajra') translates both as 'lightning bolt' and as 'diamond'. It is a widespread symbol in both buddhism and hinduism, and can be found on for example depictions and statues of the buddha, decorations on ritual attributes, furniture and fabrics.
The dorje symbolizes the true nature of the universe and reality; the endless, ultimate emptiness in which all possibilities exist. The dorje supports in 'cutting through the crap of the mind', finding a clear path through the diversions of the 'monkey-mind' and ego-chatter, seeing what's real and what's not. The dorje is said to destroy all kinds of ignorance, and support in keeping a clear focus and not getting caught in mental distractions, in this way helping in gaining true insights.
The dorje symbol is placed in between another important buddhist' symbol; the Eyes of the Buddha. The buddha's eyes can be found on many different objects, ranging from small items such as personal amulets up to large buildings such as buddhist' temples. The eyes represent the all-seeing ability of the Buddha, the ability to see beyond the material world into the true nature. The eyes symbolize a never-ending vigilance against illusions.
These pendants are from vintage origin and might therefore show some signs of their age and previous usage. But overall they are in very good condition.
There are two pendants available. Being all handcarved items and made on organic material, they vary slightly in appearance. You can choose your favorite one via the selection-menu.
Sizes; approximately 50 millimeters high and 40 millimeters wide. Please note; the piece of bone used for pendant #1 has a somewhat thinner spot at the top, as can be seen on the detail picture showing the backside of the pendants.
